What is 10 porutham marriage matching?
In South Indian tradition, marriage compatibility is checked with ten poruthams based on the birth stars (nakshatras) of the boy and the girl: Dinam, Ganam, Mahendram, Stree Deergham, Yoni, Rasi, Rasi Adhipathi, Vasyam, Rajju and Vedhai. Enter both sets of birth details and the tool calculates each nakshatra and shows which poruthams match.
Which poruthams matter most?
Rajju is considered the most important — a Rajju mismatch is traditionally treated as a serious obstacle. Dinam, Ganam, Yoni and Rasi also carry high weight. A detailed study of both horoscopes, including Chevvai (Mars) dosham, is recommended before a final decision.
Frequently asked questions
How many poruthams are enough for marriage?
Many families look for at least 6 of the 10 with Rajju matching, but the final decision traditionally also considers both full horoscopes.
Is this the same as North Indian Ashtakoota (36 gunas)?
No. Ashtakoota scores eight kootas out of 36 points. This page uses the South Indian ten-porutham method.
What if we don't know the exact birth time?
Porutham depends mainly on the birth nakshatra. If the Moon changed stars on the day of birth, the time decides the nakshatra — so give the time as accurately as possible.
