Rahu and Ketu Conjunctions with Other Planets
Rahu and Ketu have no bodies of their own. They are the two points where the Moon's path crosses the Sun's path. Astrology treats them as amplifiers. Whatever planet they sit with gets louder, stranger or more intense. Rahu exaggerates and pulls towards the world. Ketu cuts away and pulls towards detachment.
That is why the same planet can behave very differently depending on which node it sits with. Below are the classic combinations, with the names you will hear from Tamil astrologers.
Rahu Conjunctions
Rahu + Sun: Grahana Dosham
An "eclipsed" Sun. Confidence swings between very high and very low. Clashes with authority or with the father are common, and so is ambition for power or fame. In good houses it can give a big public career; it rarely gives a quiet one.
Rahu + Moon: Grahana Dosham
The mind is restless and imaginative, with sudden worries or fears. These people pick up on moods around them very sharply. Media, film, design and psychology suit them. They need to protect their sleep and mental health.
Rahu + Mars: Angaraka Yogam
Extreme energy and boldness. Good for engineering, the forces, sport and technology. The risks are anger, accidents with machines or fire, and rash decisions. Discipline turns this combination into a strength.
Rahu + Mercury
A sharp, inventive mind with an unconventional approach. Excellent for IT, coding, foreign languages, marketing and trading. Over-thinking and exaggeration are the main weaknesses. Read contracts carefully.
Rahu + Jupiter: Guru Chandala Yogam
Traditional values meet a rebellious streak. The person may question religion, change faiths or study unconventional philosophies. In a good chart it can produce a reformer or an original teacher. In a poor chart, misplaced trust in advisers or gurus is the warning.
Rahu + Venus
Strong desires, glamour, luxury and an attraction to people from different backgrounds. Good for film, fashion, beauty and hospitality. Overspending and complicated relationships need watching.
Rahu + Saturn: Shrapit Yogam
Heavy karmic lessons and delays, especially early in life. With patience it gives success in large organisations, foreign companies, mining, oil and labour-heavy industries. Hard work pays off late but lasts.
Ketu Conjunctions
Ketu + Sun
Low interest in fame or status. Sometimes a distant father. Spiritual insight and research ability are strong. Recognition often comes for knowledge rather than position.
Ketu + Moon
A detached, intuitive mind. These people can feel lonely in a crowd. Meditation suits them naturally. Strong emotional boundaries need to be learned.
Ketu + Mars
Sudden bursts of action, with skill in surgery, martial arts and technical repair. Watch for cuts, burns and minor injuries.
Ketu + Mercury
Deep, specialised intelligence: mathematics, astrology, coding, research. Communication can be abrupt, and people may misunderstand what you mean.
Ketu + Jupiter
Generally considered a good spiritual combination. Wisdom with humility, and interest in scripture and philosophy. Often found in the charts of genuine teachers and healers.
Ketu + Venus
Ideals in love that are hard to meet, or a delayed sense of comfort. Good for spiritual arts, music and devotional work.
Ketu + Saturn
Discipline with detachment. Can bring periods of isolation. Good for research, technical trades and service.
What Changes the Result
- Degrees: The closer the node is to the planet, often within 10 degrees, the stronger the effect.
- Sign and house: Rahu does well in the 3rd, 6th, 10th and 11th houses. Ketu is comfortable in the 12th and in spiritual houses.
- Jupiter's aspect softens almost any node combination.
- Dasha: Combinations become most visible in the Rahu or Ketu dasha, or in the dasha of the planet involved.

Traditional Remedies
- For Rahu: Durga worship during Rahu Kalam, and a visit to Thirunageswaram near Kumbakonam.
- For Ketu: Ganesha worship, and a visit to Keezhaperumpallam (Naganathaswamy temple) near Poompuhar.
- For both: Sri Kalahasti, and regular meditation. The nodes respond well to a calm and honest life.
Frequently Asked Questions
Is Guru Chandala Yoga always bad?
No. Jupiter is a strong benefic and often protects the person. The yoga mainly indicates unconventional beliefs and a need to choose advisers carefully.
Do Rahu and Ketu always cause problems?
No. In the right houses Rahu gives worldly success and Ketu gives insight. Problems arise mainly when they afflict the Moon, the lagna or the 7th house.
